Pupils and staff from St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School, Wigan, were delighted to take part in the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament Commemorative Debate in London last week.

After months of preparation the school's Child MPs joined other children, teachers and accompanying adults from across the country on 15 October to celebrate the legacy of Sir David Amess and provide young people with a national platform to share their views and have their voices heard.

During the event, which took place at Victoria Tower Gardens next to the Houses of Parliament, pupils and staff from the Archdiocese of Liverpool school met party leaders and other Parliamentarians, including St Helens North MP David Baines, gaining a valuable insight into politics, leadership and democracy. They were also warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham MP.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to engage with important national issues, develop their understanding of democracy and experience first-hand how young people can contribute to shaping the future of the country.
